The Problem
With virtual machines, application resources are shared and machines may be dynamically created or moved, so there is no simple way to assign charges to users. For organizations that seek to run profit centers with hosted virtual machines, legacy billing methods that are based on fully assigned physical resources are no longer effective or manageable.

vmSight allows you to bill for usage of your virtual environment the same way that major service providers such as Amazon.com bill for hosted services. Rather than strictly billing by VMs and physical resources, you can bill according to user access to VMs and the business services that they run. vmSight monitors your virtual environment and integrates with your AD or LDAP user directory and your VMware Virtual Center. It lets you set up charge plans for users by bandwidth or processing time, and to associate charge plans with specific service levels and even times-of-day. With vmSight you generate bills similar to phone services, showing usage and charges assigned to individual users. Billing data can also be exported automatically to other bill generation systems.
